Frequently Asked Questions
Lash extensions do not damage the lash when applied correctly. They should only be glued to 1 of your natural lashes and will fall off naturally when that lash has ended its cycle. Lashes have a growth cycle of 60-90 days. The average person has approximately 90-150 lashes per eye on the top and approximately 80 on the bottom. We lose about 2-5 lashes per day which is why lash extension fills are recommended around the 3rd week (give or take). As long as they have been applied properly and safely, you can continue to get infills without having to remove after a few fills and take a break or get a fresh full set again.
You will notice your lashes falling out more only because you now have a longer, thicker lash attached to it whereas you might not otherwise notice it fall out. Don’t be alarmed if you lose a few on the first few days, they may not have bonded properly to the lash or they may be at the end of their cycle. Be sure to mention it to your lash artist if it seems like a significant amount within the first week.
Certain medications can cause you to have adverse reactions to the glue or lash extensions may not last as long. Be sure to mention to your lash artist if you are currently taking any medications. If you have any eye conditions, you may be denied lash services permanently or temporarily.
What is the difference between Classic lashes and Volume lashes?
Classic lashes are 1 extension glued to 1 natural lash. They are thicker to give the mascara look. Volume lashes are multiple extensions glued to 1 natural lash and each weigh much less than 1 classic lash. This gives us the ability to create softer, wispier, voluminous lash looks much like strip lashes. Both styles can be any length you choose giving us a large variety of styles.
What is a Lash Lift?
The treatment manipulates the lash structure to curl from the root unlike lash perms that curl the middle of the lash. It creates a look as if you used a lash curler on your lashes. During the treatment, I also tint the lashes and for many that aren’t big makeup wearers to begin with, it’s the perfect way to add some pop to the eyes with little maintenance!
How long does the Lash Lift last?
This treatment will last 6-8 weeks before you notice most of them have grown out due to your lash growth cycle.
With the lift, curl, tint option can I still rub/wash my face?
After 24 hours, you can treat your lashes as normal again. However, rubbing them throughout the day while dry make cause the lash to lose it’s curl prematurely due to oils in the skin.
How long do extensions usually last?
Fills are recommended after 2-4 weeks to keep them full. The last few may last up to 6 weeks.
Can you do both the tint/curl and then the extensions?
Yes, but you must wait 48 hours after the lift treatment to have extensions applied.
Does the tinting burn the eyes?
No it should not as long as none of the product gets in the eye. I am extremely careful when applying the tint to ensure this does not happen. Sterile eye wash is always kept on hand in case of any irritation.
Can I wear mascara on my lashes after the lash lift treatment?
Yes, after 24 hours you can do whatever you want! No restrictions.
Can I sit in a steam room/sauna with my lashes?
After 48 hours post lash lift treatment, yes. With lash extensions, it is not recommended as it may break the bond of the glue and cause them to fall out prematurely.
Can I get my lash extensions wet?
Yes, after 12 hours you can get them wet and it is recommended that you wash them daily or every other day. Always be sure to gently pat with a towel then comb them out so they do not dry stuck together. You will be supplied with a lash comb after every application.
What do you recommend to wash the lash extensions?
I carry Enlightened Lashes Natural/Organic Foamy Wash that is formulated specifically for lash extensions to not break down the glues. Oil free products are always recommended. This cleanser is available for purchase in studio. I also carry Enlightened Lashes Luxury Lash Conditioner for additional after care to care for your lashes as best as possible. Foamy cleansers are best as they are typically oil free or contain small amounts of oils and seem to get in between the lashes for a better clean.
Can I wear makeup with my new lashes?
For lash extensions, you always want to avoid any products with oils in them as they can break down the adhesive used and cause lashes to fall prematurely. If you must wear mascara in between fills if you let it go too long, do not apply to the root. For eyeliner, it’s best to use a powder eyeshadow mixed with water and apply with an angle brush. For lash lift, you can treat your lashes as normal. Make sure you clean them!
What if I get a reaction?
Contact your lash artist immediately to have the lash extensions removed. In some cases, take an anti-histamine to reduce the reaction. In worse cases, contact your physician. If you reacted after a lash lift, notify your lash artist and see your physician.
I wear contacts, should I remove them for the service?
Yes, it is recommended you remove them before each service.
